Last week at our Campbell Children’s Service, our early childhood teachers provided an experience for the children to learn about different aspects of shapes.
At the beginning of the week, the children were encouraged to learn about the unique differences of each shape. They then apply this knowledge, looking for different objects around their environment to help them distinguish between 3-D shapes. For example, the children identified rectangular prisms through items like a book, a sphere through items like a ball, and a cube through items like a block with six square faces.
Later throughout the week, our educators provided the children with 3D shaped blocks to continue their learning and construct different buildings with the blocks.
