The 18th – 24th August is Book Week, a week that brings children and books together and celebrates the act of reading. This year our Early Childhood Services celebrated the week with various activities. Some of these activities are highlighted below:
Winyu
Winyu Early Childhood Service celebrated Book Week in a unique way this year. Our Educators read stories to their children in their own languages and the many languages of children.
Some stories were acted out, some were sung, some were drawn on to chalkboards and some were also shared in the first languages of our Educators and children.
Campbell
To celebrate Book Week, the children from Campbell Cottage were invited to Canberra Grammar School’s Northside campus to watch their book week dress up and hat parade.
After the parade they were invited into the school hall for a reading of the winning Book Week story in the 0-8 aged category ‘Rodney Looses It!’ By Michael Bauer.
We are very thankful for Canberra Grammar School for inviting us to their Book week celebration and look forward to continuing our connection with the school.
Currawong
Currawong celebrated the theme of Finding Our Treasures with a range of wonderful learning provocations and events.
The staff, children and families have taken time to share with us their most treasured books throughout the week.
On Thursday the children came dressed as their favourite book characters. The service transformed into a magical world of literacy, where children uniquely expressed themselves with some amazing costumes.
