At YWCA Canberra, our family day care educators embrace a wide concept of family, encompassing both the children in their education and care services and with the staff who support them. With the strong relationships they have built, it was a sad moment when we said goodbye to a member of our Quality Support Unit, Lee, who had been with the family day care program for many years.
Of course, we couldn’t say goodbye to family without a bit of fanfare and food. Our educators organised a surprise farewell party at their weekly playgroup gathering, with each bringing a dish of their cultural cuisine to share.
The children had a great time dancing, singing and taking part in a mini-Olympics while Lee said her farewells, shared some wonderful memories and had a bit of a dance and play herself.
